Just a quick check-in...
So you're stuck with just a written post as I can't get the computer to recognize my camera's chip. You'll have to wait until Friday.
As I move about my day I think off all the brilliant postings I'm going to write with witty remarks and colorful descriptions...but when I sit down at the computer I'm too lazy to type much. I guess I can't really put this experience into any kind of accurate words anyway. It's too different and crazy to even describe. Plus the heat really drains you of intelligence. Sounds strange but true. I've said some of the dumbest things since I've arrived. Or maybe it's the cervezas...hmm.
So let's see, taught a class last night, good god it's hot! And this coming from a girl who teaches hot yoga day to day. I find myself demonstrating much, much more, not sure if it's the language barrier or what. So that's like taking almost 2 classes a day, plus walking 19,000 miles (approx), plus swimming in the ocean. If I didn't eat like a pig I might waste away. It's definitely different and extremely challenging. Moreso then I expected. Students are of course, amazing. Most mexican, some american transports, some european transports. They're great. Now if they could just understand my VERBAL cues so my body could get a break.
What have I done on this Tuesday so far you ask? Lots! Got up at the crack of 6am to get ready to teach. Then came back, drank my daily cactus juice, or "jugo de nopal", which is a necessary ritual here. Went to coffee with a new friend, then over to an ADORABLE cute hotel beach for a few hours (caribeblu.net), swam in the ocean, read a bit, went to buy a few even SMALLER tank tops then I would normally wear (did I mention it's HOT??? If I could go naked I would....ok not really but you know what I'm saying) and bought some grocery staples, tuna, bread, pb, and Negra Modela beer. Just the important stuff. All this and it's only 3:30! You really get a lot of day when you're done working at 8am and then don't work again until 6 or 7pm. Although I should say, I can't believe how much NYC studio business I've had to do just being away for a few days. Unreal. I think I'll head out later and try to get this local cell phone fixed so I can call the local peeps for free. Of course when I get here it breaks immediately.
Ok off to do more NYC work and then maybe nap...the heat'll really drain you. Today seems extra brutal because it hasn't rained at all. Hasta luego!
Edited to add: OH I forgot to tell you! I actually rode the bike to work today! Now I don't feel that comfortable on a bike anymore for some reason. I don't know why. So I was petrified the whole time but I did it. Going to do it again tonight. And if you're thinking, "are you serious? Who thinks of riding a bike as risky?", I want to ask you, did you quit your nicely paying job to risk trying to make a career out of something you love, and then travel to live in another country alone for 3 weeks to teach in a different language? If you answered "yes", you may make fun of me, if not, then let me have my little fears, ok?

1 Comments:
I can answer yes to all of those questions, except that I am only teaching yoga in 2 languages, not 3. So you still got me.
